What the image resizer does
Images are the heaviest part of almost every web page, and most of that weight is waste: a 4000 pixel photo straight from a phone displayed in a 800 pixel column, or a screenshot saved as PNG when a JPG would be a tenth of the size. This tool fixes both problems in one step. Upload an image, choose the maximum width it needs to be, pick an output format and quality, and the server resamples it with high quality filtering and recompresses it. You get a side by side comparison of dimensions and file size, a preview, and a download link. Transparency in PNG and WebP files is preserved.
How to use it
- Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF up to 15 MB.
- Set the width. Use the presets as a guide: 400 for thumbnails, 800 for blog images, 1200 for content that spans the page, 1600 to 1920 for full width hero banners. Height follows automatically to keep the aspect ratio.
- Choose a format. Keep original if you just want it smaller, WebP for the smallest file that still looks good, JPG for photos when you need universal support, or PNG when the image has sharp edges, text or transparency that must stay lossless.
- Adjust quality. 75 to 85 is the sweet spot for photos; text heavy graphics may need 90.
- Click resize, check the saved percentage, and download the file.
Choosing the right format
WebP produces files around 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and supports transparency, and every current browser displays it. JPG remains the safest choice when the image will also be used in email or older software. PNG is lossless, so it never blurs, but photos saved as PNG are huge; reserve it for logos, icons, screenshots with text and anything needing a transparent background. GIF is kept only as an input and passthrough format; for animation, video is far more efficient. Why it matters
Page speed is a ranking factor and a conversion factor, and oversized images are the most common reason a site fails the Largest Contentful Paint metric in Core Web Vitals. Serving an image at roughly the size it is displayed, in a modern format, can cut a page from several megabytes to a few hundred kilobytes without anyone noticing a difference in quality. That means faster loads on mobile data, lower hosting bandwidth and better scores in Google PageSpeed Insights.
